Every detail is precisely formatted according to the rules of the selected academic style. All segments of the document are accounted for, including the title, abstract, body text, bibliography/reference list.
A wizard guides you through the file, identifying headings and applying consistent styles (with your preferred numbering scheme, if any), along with body-text segments and indented blocks.
The new structure is both conceptual and visual.
Zotero citations entered into the DOCX document are automatically imported as native bibliographic records into the user’s Ibidem database, providing Ibidem’s state-of-the-art dynamic citations and bibliography / reference list formatting following the rules of the selected academic style manual.
These newly “smart” citations can thus be contextualized–changing form (full to short, ibid., op. cit., etc., depending on the style) as citations are added, deleted, or moved.
(Citations not entered from a Zotero database remain formatted as they were in the original document.)

A new tabbed toolbar replaces multiple toolbars with a single tabbed version with intuitive categories that expose task-specific actions and options, foregrounding all of Nota Bene’s capabilities, making them newly accessible to both novice and experienced users.
Nota Bene’s Guide Bar offers tips and tricks for new and existing users alike (Nota Bene does more than you even know about). Two categories—”Introduction” and “Scholarship”—offer half a dozen pull-down descriptive help panels that can be pulled down or printed.
A new startup screen for new users (shown above) to introduce them to all of Nota Bene’s capabilities and an alternative, simpler screen that allows direct launching of Nota Bene modules upon startup are now available.
An advanced set of capabilities have been added in bulleted & numbered lists, with nine of each now supported, and now allowing full independent (secondary) outlines in documents with a framework/outline.
New track-change comments have been added, and are visible, along with deletions, in the new Smart Bar, letting you view the active text in the file without interruption, and everything — edits and comments — can be exported/ imported to/from Opus and Word.
A new side bar displays the locations and contents of annotations (including user-entered Orbis keywords) and index and table of contents entries, cross-references, and track changes/comments, for ready viewing without having to hover over them to see their contents.
New multilingual dictionaries, thesaursi, and hyphenation options, now extending to other alphabets, are now provided, using open-source proofing tools used in other projects such as Mozilla
The process of adding distinct chapter headings when all endnotes are gathered together at the end of a manuscript has been greatly simplified.
Simplifications and enhancements have been made at multiple other places in the program.
