NB15 Revision History

CURRENT RELEASE

NOTA BENE 15.0.13

(JULY 24TH, 2026)

Nota Bene 15 was first released in June 2026. The list below only documents the changes made since the first public release (15.0.12).

Release 15.0.13 (July 24, 2026)
  • The APA (American Psychological Association) 7th edition citation style has been added (changes include dropping of publication location information, and an increase in the number of author names output [to 19], among others)
  • A drop-down combo box has been added on the top line of the new Ordered and Bulleted Lists dialog to make it easier to select the legacy ([Shift] + [Alt] + [F1]-[F4] [numbered] and [Ctrl/Cmd] + [Shift] + [F1]-[F3] [bulleted]) list options for specific files (once selected, that option will remain active for a given file; the default option for new files, or for legacy files, unless reconfigured as noted here, are to use the very significantly enhanced new list and bullet numbering capabilities)
  • Various other simplifications/enhancements have been made to the keyboard shortcuts that begin ordered and bulleted lists (#, *, or -, followed by spaces, at the beginning of [blank] lines [note that these can be turned off under Edit, Expand/Convert/Shorthand])
  • The small “TinyTip” popups on elements in ordered or bulleted lists has been expanded to remind users of [Tab] and [Shift]+[Tab] to increase or decrease items in linked lists (or indent/outdent the entire list, if on the first item in that list)
  • When inserting a hotkey link ([Ctrl/Cmd]+[K]) in a file, a message indicating that the (green) visible hotkey link text that will be inserted will automatically be set to the actual hotlink unless modified (this already happens automatically if the in-file text field is blank, but the message makes this process clearer)
  • An option has been added to allow user configuration of the font display size in the drop-down help/explanation dialogs for the Guide Bar buttons (one user reports unexpected zoom sizes that require horizontal scrolling to view all the text, something not reproducible here on multiple similar [Mac] systems; to activate the configuration popup box at the top, display one Guide Bar help panel, and then click [Ctrl/Cmd] + [Shift] + [Alt/Opt] and then the key to the immediate left of the right [Shift] key [the ? on US keyboards] and enter the zoom setting that works on the system in question)
  • A more descriptive message is given on Mac systems that currently (until Wine is updated) require printing to PDF (as Nota Bene does automatically) before printing from the resulting PDF file
  • Automatic lookup of words (double clicked in a file) in Popup Ibidem no longer requires the real-time spell checking be active
  • The (mistaken) “NB module” errors (for example, with DCUTIL.DLL) that a few people encountered when loading NB on Windows have been addressed
  • An issue one user reported with creation of manuscript files on Macs has been addressed (multi-select of files from Finder was not working)
  • Multiple Orbis textbases can once again be displayed in the main Orbis Gateway menu (this was not an issue in Popup Orbis)
  • An error is no longer returned when creating an Orbis textbase when no files exist in the parent folder, even if there are files selected in subfolders
  • A problem where sometimes the default shortcuts for Popup vs. full Ibidem ([F7] for the former; [Ctrl/Cmd] + [F7] for the latter) has been corrected
  • A problem loading multiple user spelling dictionaries from folders whose names include spaces has been resolved
  • An issue rendering a kaph with a dagesh (as final even when it should be medial) when the Unicode font mode is activated (File, Font, Font, Options button) has been corrected
  • The Smart Bar is no longer automatically displayed when invoking the Cross-Reference dialog bar ([Alt]  + [R])
  • The [Al] + [Home]/[End] shortcut popup (the two arrows at the top right of the Nota Bene editing window, immediately above the vertical scrollbar is not longer displayed in the horizontal ruler is turned off (since the display is linked to that ruler, there are no known coordinates to locate it if the former is hidden)
  • Some changes have been made to the aesthetics (related to positioning of buttons) on NB’s standard error message box
