THE MOST SIGNIFICANT NOTA BENE NEWS IN A GENERATION
NEW TOOLS • NEW VISION • NEW TEAM
With the Same Unwavering Commitment
to Providing Specialized Tools
for Your Research and Writing Needs
Today marks a new era in the Nota Bene community’s long and storied history, one defined by simplified, more elegant, and more powerful research tools, inspired by a new vision, brought to you by a new Nota Bene team continuing with our core conviction that your research needs are what matters.
As many of you know, Anne Putnam said a fond farewell to Nota Bene at the end of 2024 and is now gleefully retired! For more than 25 years, Anne worked alongside Steve to lead the company forward, providing scholars with exceptional tools for research and writing. We are deeply grateful to Anne for her part in making the company what it is today, and we wish her all the best in her retirement. Anne is delighted to see the company moving forward with new people, fresh ideas, and a remarkable new release: version 15.
The new Nota Bene would not have been possible without Anne’s tireless contributions over these many years. The entire Nota Bene user community is in her debt. We are sure that all of you would want to join us in extending our heartfelt thanks for everything she has done to sustain and strengthen Nota Bene.
Aware of our changing world, and in anticipation of Anne’s retirement, we have spent the last three years totally re-envisioning Nota Bene. We are now delighted to announce the results of that sustained effort: NB 15.
Radically
Simplified
Virtually all of the formerly add–on modules are now included in the base Workstation, opening up all the power of NB’s new web-capture tool, Radius (the most distinctive and useful NB module since Orbis), while expanding the reach of Orbis to include all kinds of files
Thoroughly
Modernized
Nota Bene now introduces itself with an entirely reworked, state-of-the-art look and feel, a new aesthetic that invites research possibilities by incorporating numerous new toolbar shortcuts to simplify your workflow, while still allowing you, as always, to restore your familiar legacy setup
Extensively
Enhanced
New import/export module for DOCX makes collaboration easier and more accurate than ever, while a new, feature-rich database (Matrix) lets you manage virtually any kind of data, industry-standard multilingual/alphabet spell checkers, thesauri, and hyphenation, extensively expanded bullet/numbering options, improved track changes and editorial comments, thumbnail links in Ibidem and Matrix, and much more
Along with this newly reworked program comes a renewed vision, more outward looking, focused on bringing a new generation of scholars into the Nota Bene user community, made possible by a new team of both part-time consultants and full-time staff committed to making Nota Bene the only choice for scholars in the humanities and social sciences, and writers, advocates, lawyers, and others whose work depends on narratives, evidence, and arguments.
We’ll be sharing more specific details about the broader vision and expanded team in upcoming newsletters. But for now, we want to focus on what matters most to you: the release of the new Nota Bene — designed, as always, with your needs in mind.
In a changing world of AI, it’s our continuing commitment and responsibility to provide advanced technological resources at a human scale.
As we look to this new future, we also want to remember the past and recognize how many of you have been part of the Nota Bene community for so many years. We’re grateful that you have entrusted your scholarly careers to the Nota Bene program and to this community, confident that this unique set of tools has made your scholarly careers both more productive and more enjoyable.
To thank you for your support — and to invite you to continue participating in the Nota Bene vision — we are making an unprecedented upgrade offer that will allow you to get Nota Bene 15 for half price, or even for free!
Thank you from all of us at Nota Bene for being part of this journey across the generations.
We welcome you to a new future — expanded, simplified, and more creative.
