Archiva is a suite of web research, data-capture, and conversion tools that help you locate, retrieve, and import reference and citation data directly into Nota Bene as Ibidem records. In the current version of Nota Bene, the core Archiva capabilities—formerly available only as add-on modules like Premium—are now included in the base Workstation at no extra cost. Advanced features previously part of Platinum have been expanded and reintroduced as Archiva+, an optional add-on for enhanced citation capture. Users who previously had Premium or Platinum retain access to the features they originally purchased.
Included in the main Nota Bene Workstation.
Archiva matters because it dramatically reduces the time and effort required to gather accurate citation data from online sources. Instead of manually typing bibliographic details—and risking errors—users can capture and import reliable reference information directly into Nota Bene in seconds. This streamlines the research process, improves accuracy, and allows scholars to focus on analysis and writing rather than formatting and data entry.
As an academic, you have access—via your university or research center—to tens of thousands of on-line databases of journal and newspaper articles, along with chapters in books and anthologies. Archiva mines data from the various aggregators that provide direct access to this article-level literature, bringing the bibliographic data automatically into your Ibidem database.
“Everything works like a charm! I can retrieve records and append them normally not only accessing JSTOR but other databases as well. Many thanks for your attention and my congratulations for this wonderful tool you created.”
Enrique Lynch ♦ late Professor of Philosophy, University of Barcelona
Optional add-on module.
What You Get with Archiva+
Convert existing bibliographies into fully structured Ibidem records in seconds. Archiva+ intelligently parses citation data and places each element into the correct field, eliminating manual re-entry.
Paste a list of ISBN numbers and instantly retrieve complete bibliographic records. Archiva+ gathers authoritative metadata and imports it directly into Ibidem.
Extract ISBN numbers from unformatted text and convert them into complete citation records. Archiva+ detects and processes ISBNs even within messy or copied text.
Using one of the many free ISBN barcode scanner apps available for iPhone and Android, you can quickly scan books and send the resulting ISBN data to your computer. Once the ISBN numbers are in readable text form—even if embedded within other text—Archiva+ converts them into complete Ibidem records. The scanning itself is handled entirely by your chosen app, but Archiva+ uses only the ISBN to retrieve authoritative bibliographic data through its own advanced conversion engine. Unlike most tools, it even includes publisher location information, creating fuller and more reliable records.
Locate missing ISBN numbers for records already in your database. Archiva+ fills in gaps, improving the completeness and reliability of your citations.
Generate direct links from your records to authoritative web sources. Archiva+ connects ISBN-based records to relevant online pages for quick verification.
Search supported web databases directly from within Archiva+ and save frequently used sources for quick access. Streamline repeat research tasks with customizable shortcuts.
