NOTES ON MOVING NB FROM WORD

Lose nothing from Word documents you’ve already written

  • Keep all formatting (heads and sub-heads, body-text formats, including block quotes, references, and bibliography/works cited contents)
    • Note that embedded images, graphics, charts, etc. are not yet converted
  • Convert Zotero references in your Word documents into native dynamic Ibidem references
  • Specifically:
    • The in-text citations will be converted to “smart” Ibidem citations
    • The work itself will be added to your working Ibidem database
      • NB will check for records already in the database, and not add a record if it already exists
    • By converting Zotero references to smart Ibidem citations, all the automatic Ibidem options, including “contextualizing” citations (changing subsequent cites to the appropriate shortened form, etc.), can be applied to those records
  • Apply your preferred academic style manual rules

The ‘Smart Conversion’ Tool

Nota Bene’s ‘smart conversion’ tool easily and speedily converts Word research documents without loss of structure or format while leaving the original Word document untouched.

This tool is automatically invoked when a Word document is opened from within Nota Bene, indicating that it sees that a research document is involved, asking if you wish to proceed with the conversion, and apply an academic manual of style to it.

Once you click OK, you are provided with step-by-step guidance at each section along with requests for permission as the ‘smart conversion’ tool reads through the document’s sections including the Bibliography/Works Cited region.

A video tutorial is freely available on the Nota Bene support page, which is found at https://www.nb.notabene.com/tour.

You gain everything — the most dynamic and sophisticated document processing in the world in the form of a Nota Bene document — and lose nothing — your original Word documents remain intact.
