RADIUS FEATURES

HOW RADIUS CAPTURES AND ORGANIZES RESEARCH DATA

Radius captures more than simple web clips. It can collect HTML pages, bibliographic metadata, PDFs, ISBN-based book data, and publisher information—then make that material searchable in Orbis and usable in Ibidem.

Why Radius is different

Unlike ordinary web-clipping tools, Radius can identify different types of data on a single page and create separate entries for each. That means web content, citation data, and linked files can all be captured in ways that are useful later for research, searching, and writing.

Captured HTML and PDF material can also be searched in Popup Orbis using simple or advanced Boolean queries, while bibliographic data can flow directly into Ibidem.

Searchable, Structured, Connected

How capture works in practice

Typical Research Scenarios

Depending on the source, Radius captures content in different ways—from one-click web clipping to citation import, PDF linking, and ISBN conversion. Below are some common scenarios and what happens in each case.

Standard Web Pages

Scenario: Standard web pages, periodicals, consumer sites, and general-access content

How to Capture: Use the Radius browser extension, or select the page and use Ctrl/Cmd + A followed by Ctrl/Cmd + C

What Happens:

  • The page’s HTML content is clipped and indexed instantly
  • Content becomes searchable in Popup Orbis under a designated textbase
  • A corresponding record is created in Ibidem’s “Web Pages” database
  • The record includes both the original URL and a local saved version of the page

Scenario: Articles from academic journals, databases, or publisher platforms.

How to Capture

  • Click the citation link on the page (Radius provides site-specific support)
  • Click the PDF download link if available

What Happens:

  • Citation data (RIS format) is automatically converted into an Ibidem record
  • Downloaded PDFs are saved and linked to the bibliographic entry
  • Linked PDF contents are indexed and become searchable in Popup Orbis

Scenario: Existing references stored in Zotero.

How to Capture

  • Select one or more records in Zotero
  • Press Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + C

What Happens:

  • A new record is created in the Ibidem bibliographic database
  • Imported entries become fully native Ibidem records
  • These records support all citation and document integration features within Nota Bene

Scenario: Book listings and metadata from publisher platforms such as Edelweiss.

How to Capture

  • Select one or more books
  • Click the Radius Web Extension
  • OR use Ctrl/Cmd + A, then Ctrl/Cmd + C

What Happens:

  • Captured data is stored in Ibidem’s “Catalogs” database
  • Records can be copied into the main bibliographic database
  • Data includes author details, table of contents, and available publisher information (such as descriptions or reviews)

Scenario: Web pages that contain one or more ISBN numbers within the text.

How to Capture

  • Click the Radius Web Extension
  • OR use Ctrl/Cmd + A, then Ctrl/Cmd + C

What Happens:

  • Radius detects ISBNs and creates separate bibliographic records for each
  • Multiple data types (HTML + ISBN records) can be captured from a single page
  • Each ISBN entry is stored in a dedicated database and can be copied into Ibidem
  • Records are immediately usable for citation and research workflows
